Lymphatic drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage has a wide range of effects. It is mainly used to decongest swollen areas of the body such as the trunk and extremities (arms and legs).
Circular movements performed with light pressure move the fluid from the tissue into the lymphatic system.
Manual lymphatic drainage mainly affects the skin and subcutaneous area and is not intended to increase blood circulation as in massage.
It is also useful for pain relief before and after operations, as it can decongest swollen tissue that is overloaded with cell fluid.
The patient feels significant relief, pain medication can be reduced and the healing process is faster.
